Baxter Close YMCA Adult COED Pickleball League

Location: Baxter Close YMCA – Gymnasium

Registration: Open until the start day of the League

Member Rate: $40 per person for all 8 weeks (Members only – 21 years or older)

League Dates:

Session 2: April 10th-May 29

Session 3: August 14th-October 2nd

Session 4: October 23rd-December 18th (SKIP November 27th)

Weekly Times and Leagues – you should know how to play but do not need to be an expert:

  • Recreational 11:00am-12:00pm
    • Round Robin play and the goal is fun.
  • Competitive 12:00pm-1:00pm 
    • Round Robin play with two weeks of tournament play. The goal is fun and to win and be a higher seeded player at the tournament.

Team Selection: You will find a co-ed partner (Male/male, female/female, or Male/Female teams of your choice). You will include your partner’s name at registration, both must be registered to play. Please also be prepared to list your team name, or list your name if you do not want one.

Alternates/Missed Days: It is preferred you attend all days of the league.

If you need to miss, please email [email protected] with 48 hours notice at MINIMUM. We will provide a designated alternate, non-approved alternates will not be allowed to play and could result in a forfeit of the game.

Alternates will be from the other league or added to the group as designated alternates. A MAX of 4 designated alternates are available, the rest will sub in from the opposing league. Alternates are selected by the Y.

All alternates will be posted on the game schedule and enforced by staff.

Game Schedule: Will be provided by April 3 at BaxterCloseYSports.com

Scores: Will be posted on Y Gametime at the link above, weekly after games.

Weekly Matches:

Recreational: Two 30-minute match per week, round robin style all 8 weeks.

Competitive: Two 30-minute match per week, for 6 weeks with a bracket style tournament week 7 and 8 (total of 8 weeks) Those who are eliminated in the tournament will serve as line judges for the additional games. Gold and Silver medals will be awarded to those who win 1st and 2nd place in the final game.

End of Session Social:

On the last session date, immediately after the last game, around 1:00pm, players in the rec or competitive league will gather in the conference room. Feel free to bring snacks to share.

Angie Smith

Angie Smith, is a gifted writer, encourager and loving mother of four. Together with her husband, former NFL player Steve Smith, they established The Steve Smith Family Foundation, which is dedicated to providing hope and inspiration to those in need while advancing causes  close to the family’s heart – Promoting family health & wellness as well as the awareness and prevention of domestic violence.

In 2022, The Steve Smith Foundation and Mecklenburg County partnered to create Charlotte’s first behavioral health urgent care, a 24/7, 365 urgent care facility dedicated to mental health and substance abuse needs.

Angie’s commitment to her family, transparency and unselfishness, by putting other’s needs before her own, is an inspiration to all of us!

Alan Tyson

Alan Tyson is the President Architech Sports and Physical Therapy. He was the former Vice President of Sports Performance and Rehabilitation for OrthoCarolina. He is a physical therapist board certified as a sports clinical specialist, a certified athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist. He has worked with the Charlotte Knights (AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox) and continues to serve as a consultant to the team. Alan is also a consultant with the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Eagles.

Alan has spoken regionally and nationally on various training topics including the foot and ankle, spine care, hip and knee rehabilitation, and he has developed two continuing education courses on the shoulder. He has written 3 books and developed specific training programs for the female athlete, the baseball pitcher, and for football players preparing for the NFL combines. Alan is also an associate editor of the National Strength and Conditioning Journal. He co-hosted a weekly radio show “Health Headlines” on 1110AM WBT with Stacey Sims and Dr. Russ Greenfield for 3 years.

Antoinette Johnson
