Competitive pressures should be discouraged and players should be focused on the “everyone wins” theory. U8 players will be expected to be able to dribble with both hands and become comfortable with shooting and passing. More importantly, they will have fun and develop a love for the game.

This is where motor skills are more refined. More fouls happen here. Children now have the ability now to think in advance and begin to anticipate where the ball will be, as well as have the ability to stay at tasks longer. Children can identify with a team and begin to make friends. Socialization becomes very important. This is where “traditional” basketball is being played. Repetition of skills becomes very important and rules are more defined at this level.

This is where a child experience a full game like situation.  Children begin to develop complex coordination skill sequences. Can fully appreciate the approach to the basket and understands combination play can be a way of getting there quicker. Full understanding of the rules are important, as this is where traditional basketball is played. Fouls will be called, and that is fine for the growth and knowledge of players and coaches.  More importantly, the coach is a role model and should encourage sportsmanship and fair play.
